Helen for State Rep

Meet Helen Zhou

Candidate for Texas House District 137

My Story

I was born in Shanghai, China, and came to America with my family as a high school student. I graduated from Glasgow High School in Delaware, then earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Accountancy and Economics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. In 1998, I moved to Houston to begin my career with a Big 4 accounting firm—and I never left. I instantly fell in love with Houston’s bright lights, warm weather, and limitless opportunity. This city became my home, and I have never stopped working to make it better for all of us.

My Roots in District 137

  • Proud Sharpstown homeowner since 2004
  • Sharpstown real estate investor since 2008
  • Licensed Texas Certified Public Accountant and Texas real estate broker

I have a personal stake in our community’s success. I feel the pain when property taxes rise faster than paychecks and when promised flood-protection projects never seem to arrive. Like you, I’m tired of seeing good neighbors priced out of the places they love

My Community Service

  • Elected member of the Sharpstown Civic Association Board and Executive Committee since 2022
  • Executive Board member of the Chinese Civic Center for over a decade

These organizations serve the heart of District 137—a vibrant, immigrant-rich district where more than 70% of residents speak a language other than English at home. I understand our families because I am one of you.

Why I'm Running

I am not a career politician. My professional life has taken me around the world, and everywhere I’ve been, I’ve seen the same thing: people are decent, hardworking, and kind when given a fair chance.I’m running for Texas House District 137 because state government should work as hard for us as we work for it—with honesty, common sense, and respect for every taxpayer, every culture, and every story that makes our district strong.
